Marked in Red

Marked in Red is an interactive awareness map for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S). I scoped, designed, and built it end to end. What’s live today is a working demo on clearly-labeled sample data; the real version, sourced responsibly from public records and built with community guidance, is the next step.

It is built with Next.js, Supabase, and Leaflet: an interactive map layer over a structured data backend. The work was about turning something heavy and often abstract into something people can see and sit with.

This project is personal. I am Anishinaabe, a descendant of the Red Lake Nation, and it is not a distant issue where I come from. Building it was a way to put the same care I bring to people-centered work toward a community the data too often overlooks.
